Domestic violence can take many forms between people in an intimate relationship. Physical violence may include kicking, punching, shoving, or slapping. Sexual violence may include unwanted touching, fondling, or forced intimacy. Emotional violence may involve coercion, threats, or intimidation used to create a controlling or fearful relationship.
The Superior Court of California, County of San Joaquin has established Domestic Violence Courts to handle both felony and misdemeanor domestic violence cases. Designated courtrooms hear arraignments and probation violation matters related to domestic violence offenses.
